The Two Sides of a Barbed-Wire Fence

Good column today by Nicholas Kristof on the Israeli occupation, especially what's happening in the southern Hebron hills area: The Two Sides of a Barbed-Wire Fence.

As he ends his article: "Israel has a point when it argues that relinquishing the West Bank would raise real security concerns. But we must not lose sight of the most basic fact about the occupation: It’s wrong."

  1. Rebecca,

And Kristof's point, in what you quote, is exactly what? That the Israelis ought cede the territory and face the inevitable consequences? Such idiocy is beyond me. NO. Ceding territory under the current circumstances is WRONG. The likely outcome makes holding the territory, until such time as Arabs accept Jews as having a legitimate political program, PERFECTLY MORAL - by any standards that any true liberal would hold. Life over property!!!

And, No. I have no brief on behalf of settlers. But, has he - and perhaps you - learned nothing at all from the withdrawn from Gaza and, before that, from Southern Lebanon - both withdraws leading to terror campaigns?

I'm sorry, Rebecca, but this point of view is so wrongheaded as to be a disgusting for of anti-liberal nihilism.
