Your tax dollars at work

Tax-Exempt Funds Aiding West Bank Settlements - An important article in the New York Times abut how Americans have sent tax-deductible contributions to settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem at the same time as the U.S. government has consistently viewed the settlements as an obstacle to peace. See the graphic below of the groups who have sent money and volunteers to the settlements.

  1. Read all the criticisms though. They did a lousy hatchet job.

  3. Rebecca,

I do not see your point in re-posting BS that the Times has chosen to publish instead of factual news.

US policy does not dictate where people may donate their money. The law does. And, the Times has dug up nothing illegal - just people supporting their pet cause. In fact, the very notion of freedom means allowing people to donate money to causes which you or I might not approve. The alternative to that viewpoint makes you and me and everyone else slaves to government policy.

I do not support the settlement project. However, worse than that project is the project which sees that project as being the horror of horrors. You should know better.

  4. N., I don't see the settlement project as being the "horror of horrors." But it is an obstacle to peace with the Palestinians, especially the way it is being implemented in Jerusalem, which is designed to make it impossible for Jerusalem to be a capital for both Israel and Palestine. Palestinians have legitimate claims to Jerusalem which are being completely ignored by the Israeli government. I would suggest you take a look at a source like Ir Amim before making such catgeorical statements about the harmlessness of settlements.
