Other news from Israel, some even good!

Other news on racism and anti-racism

There's a vigil going on right now in Kikar Zion (Zion Square) in Jerusalem against violence and racism. See this brief video on Instagram: http://instagram.com/p/qKRyUWNc5J/

A video posted on July 4th on a Palestinian Facebook site shows a mob of Jews in downtown Jerusalem attacking Arabs, who are being defended by the police.

Click on https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=836594419685759 to see the video.

The caption beneath the video reads (Google translation): "See settlers attacking young Arabs in Jaffa Street and trying to kill them." Published by the Palestine Network for Dialogue.

The people in the mob are shouting "Death to Arabs" over and over again. Disgusting.

My friend Betsy just posted a notice from Tag Meir about a demonstration planned for Saturday night in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv, at 9:15 pm.
Translation:
This coming Saturday night the silent majority will go out to Rabin Square to make its voice heard: No to racism, no to incitement, no to violence - yes to friendship, neighborliness, and equality.
We, citizens of Israel, have for too long a time abandoned the public square to extremists, to outright incitement, to violence, and to division of the sectors from one another.
This is wakeup call to the state of Israel, to create a Jewish and democratic state, based on values of equality and friendship.
On Saturday night we will have a national, Zionist, and Israeli event that turns to all of the citizens of Israel, whoever they are, without distinction of religion, race, or sex, in the spirit of the Declaration of Independence. Only together will we protect our state as a Jewish and democratic state.
"I will not be silent, because my country has changed its face."
Apparently there is also another anti-violence, anti-racist demonstration scheduled for the same time in Tel Aviv, this time at 8:30 pm in Habimah Square. Maybe the organizers will figure out to unify the two; it doesn't make much sense to have two demonstrations for the same purpose at the same time in different places.

We will stop the insanity! We will protect democracy. We are sick of the situation, we are going out to the streets to stop insanity and to protect democracy. Now is the time to stand.
Saturday night, July 7, 8:30 pm - gathering in Habimah Square and march to the museum. Gathering at the museum plaza at 9:30 pm.
